Valerie Knight is part of the infamous Breakfast Club, which airs 5:30am-9am every weekday morning. Val was born February 13th in Norristown, PA and grew up in King of Prussia. Val realized at the early age of seven that she wanted to be on the radio. She admits to always being a big talker all her life. She knew she had a gift of gab and love of music and creativity that made her believe she could be a broadcaster. Val received her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Temple University.
In the early 80’s she had her first broadcasting job running the boards and working behind the scenes at fellow Philadelphia station WIOQ “Q102”. She remembers her first broadcast that took place at WAEB in Allentown as being very “nerve-wracking” talking about the music and doing the weather. Val’s first big break came when Don Cannon gave her her first on air job in her hometown of Philadelphia at Sunny 104.5 in 1986. Along with Sunny 104.5, other big highlights in her career include winning an Air Award in 1996 for Best Newscaster at WIOQ with the Q Morning Crew and raising over $2 million for CHOP.
Val believes qualities that make her (and other DJs) good are vibrant personalities, a generally happy nature, and having the gift of gab! She also thinks being from the area helps a lot. If she weren’t a jock she would love to work in fashion as a stylist getting to dress people or in retail. Val currently resides with her husband of 23 years and their two dogs in the Roxborough and enjoys films, gardening, and traveling.
