Sound the trumpets...C H A R G E  !!!  The Charger is on the air on 98.1 WOGL.

Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Bob began his career when he was a teenager on a small radio station in South Jersey.  After graduating from South Philadelphia High, his career began to blossom.  Bob wrote a music column for 3 area newspapers, and hosted a weekly entertainment show on cable television.  Moving from station to station, he landed at the legendary "Wibbage" WIBG Radio 99, another Philly giant 610 WIP (when they were the #1 music station) and eventually became a "Boss Jock" on Famous 56 WFIL.  Bob also served as Music Director, and Program Director for several stations, including 1380 WAMS, in Wilmington, Delaware.

Expanding to full time television in the South, Bob performed as a weather man, magazine co-host, morning show host for a local CBS affiliate, and produced and hosted several game shows including "Music Mania."  Over the years, Bob has lent his voice to several local and national commercials and infomercials.  From acting in radio and television commercials, he progressed to acting in films, and he is a proud member of the Screen Actors Guild.  His credits include: "Rocky III", "Rocky V", "Mannequin", "Mannequin on the Move," and "Philadelphia" to name a few.

For over a decade, Bob Charger has been entertaining the Philly radio audience right here on 98.1 WOGL.  Listen to Bob weeknights from 7pm-12mid.  Tune in on Wednesday nights for the "Top 20 Countdown," at 9pm, and on Sunday mornings from 10am-12noon for the highly successful "Brunch with the Beatles" program.

A very sad time here, so let me begin..........Listeners of 98.1 WOGL received the very sad news about our own Big Ron ...With Harvey Holiday as one of the book ends, Ron in the middle, and your truly as the other book end, we had a daily working relationship with him. I might add that Harvey, Ron and I all were Boss Jocks on Famous 56, but never at the same time Big Ron in the late 70's hosting the 6-10 pm shift, In the early 1980's Holiday as Program Director and host of the afternoon program, and a few years later I joined Famous 56. in the early evening, but later moved to the afternoon drive time. What an honor to spend quality time with Big Ron. I can tell you many, many stories from behind the scenes, while spending time in the air studio, but there are too many to share. One I will share with you was right before his feature at 6:45 pm The Forgotten 45...I would open the studio door and say....Ok, what record label is the song released on ??? and Ron would say for example...RCA, and I would say ..ok.....what year ???? and Ron mentioned 1968...and then I said ok.....Spring, Summer,Fall or Winter..and he would tell me.....Most times I had the right answer, and other times he would stump me on what selection he was about to play. Both Big Ron and I were major record collectors. We both enjoyed collecting the music we played, but the original releases. From time to time he would share with me a few selections from the mid west near his home town that were hits there, but never here. And I also would bring in songs that were Big Wibbage 0r Famous 56 hits. We both shared a true passion for the music and the radio business. When I accepeted the offer to Join WOGL on a full time basis following Ron in the early evening and Holiday moving from evening to mid day, I knew he would be a tough act to follow, but I accepted the challenge....Little did I know that our working relationship would end so soon....We just started having fun, but GOD needed our Big Ron for other duties..... I have been truly blessed to have known him and to have shared that microphone every day. GOD BLESS YOU my friend and Rest In Peace
